Sotheby’s London Auctions off Works by Takashi Murakami, KAWS and More
Sotheby’s just launched its first ever auction dedicated to contemporary Japanese prints and photography. Titled “From Japan with Love,” the expansive sale features works by Japan’s leading artists such as Yoshitomo Nara to Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama and other iconic printmakers.
Picasso, Banksy, Magritte Top Christie’s $274.8 M. London Sales
At its British modern art sale on March 1, Christie’s global president Jussi Pylkkanen remarked from a podium on King Street in London how much he missed being up there, wielding his gavel, albeit just to phone and internet bidders. In the previous nine months, he had only conducted four sales, two of which were shared with auctioneers in other locations, including the “ONE” sale in July, which he had to share with Hong Kong, Paris and New York.
Beeple sold an NFT for $69 million
The record-smashing NFT sale comes after months of increasingly valuable auctions. In October, Winkelmann sold his first series of NFTs, with a pair going for $66,666.66 each. In December, he sold a series of works for $3.5 million total. And last month, one of the NFTs that originally sold for $66,666.66 was resold for $6.6 million.
